Redwood Bonsai
There are three species of Redwood tree and they are all suitable for creating a bonsai tree with. It might be hard to believe that a tree that can grow to heights of over 350 feet would be capable of being kept to such a small size as a bonsai. The truth is with patience and a lot of hard work it is possible.The 3 varieties of Redwood tree are The Giant Sequoia. A specimen of this species holds the record as the largest tree in the world, with a height of a little over 360 feet.
The Coast Redwood also called the Wellingtonia, is named after the Duke Of Wellington. And finally there is the Dawn Redwood.
If you have experience with growing bonsai, then growing a Redwood could be your next challenge. If you are a newcomer to Bonsai then it might be best to start off with a tree that is a little easier to grow.
Redwoods require a great deal of patience and also need to be wired and formed to the required shape to replicate the outdoor giants. The required skills must be learnt over time and jumping in and trying to rear a Redwood bonsai as your first try at the hobby could turn out to turn you off the hobby completely.
Having said all that, if you feel you have the dedication and patience to learn as you go using a Redwood bonsai then by all means try. Your patience and commitment could be rewarded with a beautiful specimen that will look stunning and awe inspiring wherever it is displayed.
